Asbjørnsen og moe

Peter Christen Asbjørnsen (1812–1885) and Jørgen Moe (1813–1882) were Norwegian folklorists, authors, and collectors of traditional folktales. Together, they are best known for compiling and publishing *"Norske Folkeeventyr"* (*Norwegian Folk Tales*), a collection of fairy tales and legends that became a cornerstone of Norwegian cultural heritage.

Their collaboration began in the early 1830s when both shared a passion for preserving Norway's oral storytelling traditions. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm, they traveled across the country, gathering tales directly from rural storytellers. Their collection, first published in 1841, is celebrated for its vivid language, humor, and deep connection to Norwegian culture and nature.

Asbjørnsen was also a writer and naturalist, contributing to the scientific understanding of Norway’s flora and fauna. Moe, in addition to his literary work, became a prominent theologian and later served as a bishop. Their work has had a lasting impact on Norwegian identity and is still widely read and cherished today.
